This trip offers you the authentic Sabahan lifestyle experience where you and your family will stay with a local host family through the Tombung Homestay Program and see life through the eyes of a Sabahan family. You will also have the opportunity to see the Proboscis monkey, a long-nosed monkey found only in Borneo Island up-close in the wild. You also be able to explore the abundant flora and fauna of Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site – Kinabalu National Park as well as enjoy a relaxing leisurely time at the islands – Manukan and Mamutik Island.
Day 1 (L/D)
Upon your arrival in Kota Kinabalu, you will be greeted by your tour guide. We will depart for Tombung Village for the Homestay Program. The journey is about 2 hours of driving. Upon arrival, you will meet your host family and have some time to mingle with them to get to know them better. After meeting your host family, we will visit the local rubber estate to learn about rubber processing. You will learn about how rubber processed from the initial process tapping of rubber trees to the final process of turning the processed rubber into rubber sheets. You will also have the chance to learn from the natives about edible herbs found along the way to their rubber tree holdings. After dinner, we will gather at the local community hall with the villagers and ready for some cultural activities where you will have the opportunity to learn and join the villagers to perform their traditional dances and play their musical instruments. After these activities, retire to your host’s house where you will be free at leisure.
Day 2 (B/BBQ-L/D)
After breakfast, we will gather at the community hall for a farewell ceremony and photo-taking session with the villagers. After that, you will be transferred to Kiulu River for white water rafting. There will be a briefing on the safety precautions and rafting techniques from your river guide. After the briefing, you may commence rafting down the Kiulu River.
Enjoy the thrill of white water rafting which will take 1 ½ – 2 hours of rafting before you reach the end point where a sumptuous barbecue lunch will be prepared along the riverbank. After lunch, pack up and transfer for overnight at Aristo Kinabalu Resort, Kundasang.

Day 3 (B/L/D)
After your breakfast at Aristo Kinabalu Resort, your tour guide will meet you at the hotel lobby for Tagal where we will visit Kampung Luanti Baru for fish massages and learn about the Tagal fish conservation practices. You will have the chance to experience “up to knee” fish massage for 15 minutes.
We will then depart for Poring Hot Spring. Upon arrival at Poring Hot Spring, we will first take the jungle trail to cross a canopy walkway (100 feet above the forest floor) to explore the wildlife endemic to Mount Kinabalu. Then, we will make our way to the soothing and therapeutic hot springs which many believe could heal certain ailments. We will stop for lunch either at Sri Papar or Round Inn.
After lunch, we will depart for a 45-minutes drive through scenic countryside and beautiful mountain range to Malaysia’s first World Heritage site, Kinabalu National Park offers an abundant variety of flora and fauna, boasting the world’s largest flowering plant, the Rafflesia and several species of pitcher plants and birds. The highest mountain in Southeast Asia, Mount Kinabalu stands tall at 4,101 meters above sea level. The tour at the park proceeds with a jungle walk with the park guide and includes a visit to the exhibition centre where you will find more information on the unique species of animals and plants endemic to Mount Kinabalu.
On the way back to Kota Kinabalu, we will stop by at the Nabalu Market to bargain for local handicrafts and fruit before continuing on our journey. Before heading to your hotel, we will have dinner at Kampung Nelayan Floating Seafood Restaurant. Dinner will be complemented with vibrant cultural performances by our local dancers. After the performance, there will be opportunities to take pictures with the dancers and join the dancers on stage for a dance.
Day 4 (B / BBQ – L)
After breakfast, meet up with your tour guide at the lobby at 0830hrs for your pick up to the jetty. Upon arrival at the jetty, the boat transfer to Manukan Island will be at 0900hrs. Once you reach the island, register yourself and afterwards, you will be free at leisure to do snorkeling or swimming. You may also feed the fishes at the jetty. Water sports activities are available and payable at the island. At 1200hrs, the next boat transfer takes you to Mamutik Island. Upon arrival, a BBQ lunch will be served. After lunch, you are free at leisure. By 1600hrs, take the boat transfer back to mainland. You will then be transferred back to your hotel.
Day 5 (B/L/D)
You will have breakfast at your hotel. After breakfast, you will depart for a tour of Kota Kinabalu City. Formerly known as Jesselton in 1882 and renamed in 1968 as Kota Kinabalu or KK among the locals, the city is fast becoming a modern capital with excellent infrastructure and amenities.
For this tour, we will visit University Malaysia Sabah – Sabah’s very own university and the Sabah Foundation Building (Menara Tun Mustapha) – a unique 32-storey building with no pillars which is one of the few hanging structures in the world. The trip then continues to Kota Kinabalu Handicraft Centre (formally known as Filipino Market), Sabah State Mosque, the Puh Toh Tze Temple, Atkinson Clock Tower and Sabah Museum.
We will stop for lunch at Sri Melaka Restaurant.
At 1330hrs, meet up with your tour guide at the hotel lobby. You will then be transferred to Klias for Proboscis Monkey River Cruise. Enjoy the scenic view as we will drive pass paddy fields, oil palm plantations and rustic native villages along the way. Upon arrival, tea (or coffee if preferred) will be served with local cakes at a typical village house before our boat ride. There will be briefings on safety and a brief introduction on the Nasalis Larvatus, better known as the Proboscis monkey. You will then get on a boat for your 2-hour river cruise. Be on the lookout for the unique Proboscis monkeys, endemic to Borneo, while enjoying the cacophonous symphony of nature as the river’s wildlife serenade you with their presence. You may also catch the striking Christmas tree-like formation by fireflies along the river. After the cruise, dinner will be served and then you will be transferred back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
Day 6 (B)
After breakfast, you will depart for Kota Kinabalu International Airport in time to meet your onward flight. Alternately, you may book for an extended stay with us.
