Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park was established in 1974. It is situated just offshore Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It comprises 49 square kilometers of which two-thirds are sea, and the rest is coral reefs and five islands. It is named after the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman. Manukan is the second largest island in the park and is the most popular amongst visitors who visit Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. Manukan has beautiful stretches of beaches on the southern coastline and the best beach is on the eastern tip of the island. Offshore of Manukan are coral reefs which are ideal for snorkeling, diving and swimming. It is also covered in dense vegetation and has hiking trails for those who enjoy a bit of adventure exploring into the green.

Out of 5 islands, Manukan has the most developed tourist facilities that include chalets, a clubhouse, restaurants and a diving centre. There are also recreation facilities such as a swimming pool, football field, volleyball and Sepak Takraw courts. An infrastructural facility at this island includes support-water, electricity, desalination plant, sewerage system, and a solar public telephone.

The 15 acres (61,000 m2) island makes Mamutik Island is the smallest island out of the 5 islands in the park. The 15 acres (61, 000m2) island, though being the smallest, it offers some good beaches and coral reefs. Facilities include changing rooms, toilets, picnic shelters, tables and barbecue pits. Fresh water and electricity are available.
