Located in the northern half of Borneo is the Crocker Range. The mountain range separates the east and west coast of Sabah. With an average height of 1800 meters (5900 ft), Crocker Range is the highest mountain range in Sabah. Besides that, some part of the Crocker Range has been gazetted for protection as Crocker Range Park since 1984. In 2014, the Crocker range was recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve.
Crocker Range Park consists of both hills and mountains and the forest holds many species of flora and fauna that are endemic to Borneo. Other than that, the park is also home to primates which suchWestern Tarsier, Langur, Slow Loris and the extremely sociable long tailed Macaques. The Padas River bisects the range between Beaufort and Tenom.
Day 1 (Lunch / Dinner)
Depart from PODs for 1 hour drive to Tambunan district road – KM 50. Upon arrival, commence trekking at 5,000ft above sea level, you will be walking downhill on a 45 degree slope, passing through native villages, primary & secondary jungle and shifting cultivation for about 5 hours.
At the end of your trek, stay overnight in a village house / community hall. Experience the stay with the local community.
Day 2 (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
Trek on gentle terrain and ridges, crisscrossing river beds, native villages, jungle and paddy fields. Stay overnight in village house by river bank and enjoy a picnic lunch by the river bank.
Day 3 (Breakfast / Lunch)
After breakfast, continue your last day of jungle trekking for 5 hours passing through a mixture of paddy fields and secondary forest. Return to Kota Kinabalu after hearty lunch at the local coffee shop.
